Salem, Oregon (KTVZ) – A new report shows that during open registration for the year of Plan 2025, 139,688 Oregonians registered in private health insurance through the Oregon Health Insurance Market. The market reduces pocket costs associated with registration in private health coverage.

According to the report, 80 percent of the affiliates requested and received financial assistance, which helped make health coverage more affordable for Oregonians:

  • People who receive financial help obtain an average of $ 531 per month in premium tax credits to reduce the cost of coverage.
  • The average monthly fund premium for the Oregonians after premium tax credits is $ 272.
  • More than 11% of market members have a monthly premium of less than $ 10 After applying premium tax credits.

“The market is still committed to ensuring that Oregonians can access high quality and affordable private health coverage,” said Chiqui Flowers, director of the Oregon Health Insurance Market. “We continue to support people and families to find coverage that meets their needs as health insurance evolves over time.”

The market published its annual report today (https://orhim.info/2024Report), which details the state of market health coverage in Oregon. The report describes key trends in registration and financial assistance and highlights changes in policies that improved access to health coverage.

During the Medicaid redetermination process after the pandemic, many Oregonians who were no longer eligible for the Oregon Health Plan (OHP) found private health plans through the market. OHP Bridge, the new Oregon basic health program that provides a coverage option between Medicaid and private insurance, has also played a role in the configuration of registration trends this year.

“Oha’s goal is to make sure that no oregon does not stay without coverage,” said the interim director of the Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Kristine Kautz. “The introduction of the OHP bridge and market support for affiliates demonstrate our continuous commitment to accessible medical care for all.”

People who abandon OHP or experience important changes in life, such as a change of work, relocation or family changes, can qualify for a special registration period to find private coverage. Oregonians who need to make the transition to an OHP market plan or an employer plan must act before their benefits end up to avoid a gap in coverage.
