Maharashtra CM Fadnavis urges the fastest emission of health insurance cards under state and central schemes to improve patients and hospital access.
Mumbai: pointing out the low card rate issued for health insurance plans operated by state and central governments, Prime Minister Devendra Fadnavis has asked the administration to accelerate the work. While Maharashtra is lagging behind other states when issuing Ayushman Bharat Jan Arogya Yojana (ABPMJAY) health insurance cards, its own scheme has no cards for beneficiaries, a lagoon that the CM wanted to rectify.

At a health project review meeting on Monday, Fadnavis asked the Department of Health to launch an impulse to issue Ayushman Bharat cards to the beneficiaries and also mark a scheme to issue cards for state government health schemes. The Maharashtra government operates a scheme similar to ABPMJAY called Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Gugaogya Yojana (MJPJY) with health insurance from up to even ₹5 Lakh. He has empanized more than 1,600 hospitals under the scheme to treat citizens at no cost.
“The absence of health cards makes it difficult for patients to enroll in MJPJY packaged hospitals,” said a government official. “Hospitals do not admit patients, since the data is not easily available and the registration takes a long time. The CM has asked the cards to be issued to the beneficiaries so that their information is available with a click. There is also a matter that hospitals are not willing to admit patients, since the government does not release their money in time. The CM has also asked the department to address this problem. “
The Department of Public Health has also been asked to add health procedures available under ABPMJAY to the MJPJY Plan. He has been instructed to package all BMC hospitals under MJPJY; Simultaneously, collectors have been asked to make sure more private hospitals are added to MJPJY so that patients can obtain a better treatment.
Fadnavis also reviewed Prime Minister Awas Yojana, the centrally sponsored scheme to provide houses to the weakest sections. Maharashtra has been assigned a quota of 19.66 Lakh Casas, for which 16.81 Lakh have received the approval of the central government. District level administration has been aimed at ensuring that the land is available for homes under the scheme.
Water thrust
