SPANISH VISITORS ACCOUTED FOR 45.4% OF ALL HOTEL GUESTS, CEMENTING ESR Role As Malaga’s Biggest Tourist Market. There Was A Slight Decline in International Tourists.

Malaga’s Hotels Have KICKED OFF 2025 with a Strong Showing, Thanks to a Rise in Spanish Tourists – But the Total Number of Overnight Stays Has Dipped to Last Year.

Fresh Figures from Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE) Reveal that January Saw 113,060 Hotel Guests Checking into the City’s Accommodation, Racking Up 226,526 Overnight Stays. The Numbers Show That While Domestic Tourism is On The RiseOverall Figures Have Taken A Slight Hit Comparated to January 2024.

Spanish Tourists Lead The Charge

Domestic Tourism Saw a Healthy Increase, with Spanish Hotel Guets Up by 4.23% Compared to last year. In January 2024, 49,223 Spaniards Visited Malaga’s Hotels. This Year, That Number Has Jumped to 51,305. Meanwhile, Overnight Stays Among Spanish Tourists Nudged Up By 1.03%, from 80,543 to 81,373 Nights.

Andalusians Led The Way, Making Up Nearly Half of All Spanish Visitors, with 23,991 checking in. Madrid Camet Next with 9,773 Tourists, While Ceuta, Catalonia, and Valencia EACH Sent over 2,000 visits to Malaga’s Sunny Shores.

British Visitors Top The Charts for Longest stays

The UK Remains Malaga’s Top International Market, with 8,394 British Holidaymakers Clocking Up 23,392 Overnight Stays. The Average Brit Stayed for 2.79 Days, Making Them The Longest-Staying Guests, Narrowly Edging Out The Germans (2.77 Days) and The Dutch (2.67 Days).

The Italian Market Followed in therms of Visitor Numbers, With 4,855 Arrives, While France Sent 4,167 guests.

Evoid the National Tourism Boost, Total Hotel Guets In Malaga have Dipped compared to last year. January 2024 SAW 115,270 Visits, versus 113,060 This Year. Overnight Stays Also Fell from 240,966 in January 2024 to 226,526 in 2025.

Malaga Tops Spain’s Big Cities for Hotel Occupancy

One Where Malaga Area continues to shine is OCCUPANCY RATES. The City remembered the Highest Hotel Ocupancy Rate Among Spanish Cities With More than 500,000 Residents, Hitting 66.81%. That Puts It Ahead of Madrid (64.35%), Seville (64.17%), Barcelona (63.98%), Valencia (63.40%), and Zaragoza (50.19%).

With Spanish Tourists on the Rise and Brits Still Sticking Around The Longest, Malaga’s Hotels Remain a Hot Spot – Even If the Total Numbers Aren’t Quite What They Were Last Year.
