Airasia, a low -cost of capital airline to BHD, announced important changes in its route network. The airline has stopped accepting reservations between Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah (SZB) airport, also known as Subang Airport, to the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (Kkia) and Kuching International Airport (Kia) for flights from April 7, 2025.

Airsia resumed flights from Subang airport to Kota Kinabalu and Kuching on August 30, 2024, after the return of reaction operations at the airport. Other airlines that operate outside SZB include Firefly SDN BHD, Batik Air Malaysia SDN BHD, the Singapore Airlines budget carrier and Transnusa Indonesia airlines.

The airline will relocate all flights to Sabah and Sarawak from SZB to Terminal 2 of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (Klia) (T2) from April 7, 2025. It is likely that the relocation of flights will help the airline better handle the growing air traffic between Kuala Lumpur and other important national destinations such as Kota Kota Kota Kinabalu and Kuchucando. The change of flights will also help Airsia optimize their operational efficiency and improve the experience of the traveler.

Before going there, see our seasonal guide per season for Kuala Lumpur.

A main reason behind the relocation of Airsia flights is a better infrastructure support in Klia, especially during peak travel hours. Klia is expected to support Airsia’s plans to increase flights to these destinations and rationalize their operations at the airport.

To guarantee a transition without problems, a Comprehensive Service Recovery Options Plan (SRO) has been implemented. The plan includes complete reimbursements, courtesy flight changes and credit accounts for those who face inconveniences due to previous changes. However, Airsia has announced that their flight operations will continue from SZB during Hari Raya week, a time of high travel demand. See the Airsia website for flights and other details.
